I, for one, have often thought depression is overdiagnosed - even while in its grips.
It sure is convenient to pop a pill rather than to spend time working out the solution to a problem that causes sadness.
Of course, if > a thousand things cause one sadness, it's hard to start tackling the solutions in a critical path type way.
Why won't the med docs consider cognitive behavioral therapy a little more than they now do? It needn't take any money away from the pill-pushing income, either. For me, it's one of the answers. (What was the question?)

Dammit, you tagged me and now I'm addicted. :)
I agree on the over-diagnosis, or at least overuse of medication to treat our neuroses and not the underlying psychological or (especially) behavioral problems. I am still struggling with finding a proper balance of medications, constantly trying to tweak how I feel with antidepressants and all the while cognizant of the underlying issues. Sometimes it's just easier to cope when properly medicated.
What does "tagging" mean?
(Yes, I am incredibly naive about certain things.)
I am an old lady trying to learn.
What you wrote was interesting.
Thanks for writing.
Have a nice day - courtesy of vitamin Z perhaps?!
Tagging, pinging, whatnot. We play "blog tag" all the time; someone leaves a comment and I have to check out their blog. They're not all as thought-provoking or intelligent as yours, though. ;)
You actually remind me of my oldest sister, who has a Master's in some kind of genetics and works at the Science Museum of Virginia doing things like training rats to play basketball.
Yes, vitamin Z indeed.
Oh, okay. (I thought so.)
Thank you for your very kind comment - if it was meant as a kindness! :-)
I think your blog is nifty, too.
I don't usually come across the stupid ones, somehow. I guess any searches or wanderings I do are pretty specific (?).
