We got back from our Minnesota and North Dakota trip at about 11 Tuesday night and I quickly got back to housework. We came back to find our sliding family room door standing wide open and the cats outside, one of them terrified. Our catsitters thought it was mandatory that the cats come in at night - apparently one escaped - so they left the door open. It turned out these neighbors of ours were at our house only hours before, so no harm done, I suppose. The spouse was quite upset, though. Once we found out what had happened and the timing of events, we were relieved.
The spouse's family was very nice and pretty much a joy to be with. It was pretty hot and humid up there. The kids' favorite activity was tubing behind some relative's speedboat (it happened in more than one place) and they also tried water skiing. Kid 3 is very brave and a real trouper (did not try water skiing, but was amazing at high speed tubing). On our way back into the big city, we spent a few hours in the Mall of America since the spouse's brother lives only a few miles away. We go there just about every trip. It's more about their amusement park (roller coasters, log rides, etc.) for the kids than for any shopping for us. It can be good exercise to walk the circles of all the different levels, too. We were kind of burnt out on our trip by then - well, not truly burnt out, but ready to get back home to our regular world. North Dakota would be pretty uninteresting except that we had nice family to visit with, and also they have lots of water parks in the hotels. We went to a big one in the CanadInn hotel in Grand Forks, North Dakota on recommendation. We took hundreds of photos. I am going to post them on one of the photo sites.
I'm just here to do my job, so I may as well be gracious and well-mannered (in a good mood to the family) whenever possible, which is usually.
